#Team9BAR take on the Great Newham London Run!
Last Sunday, as the sun beat down on the Olympic Stadium, PrettyGreen cheered on #Team9BAR as they followed in the footsteps of Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis-Hill at the Great Newham London Run!
Taking on a 10K run in 25 degree heat is no mean feat, especially when you’ve only been training for a month. Made up of nine ordinary people hailing from all over the UK, #Team9BAR had spent the past 30 days forcing themselves out of their slippers and into trainers come rain or shine – with a little motivation from celeb trainer and former Olympian Professor Greg Whyte.
On the morning of the race, the atmosphere in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was electric and #Team9BAR all looked ready and raring to go (albeit a little apprehensive about the heat). After some pictures in their team T-shirts and a 9BAR for energy (of course!) the team were called forward for their warm-up session.
Blending into the mass of vibrant lycra, #Team9BAR were soon squatting, jumping and fist pumping their way to the starting point – getting geared up by the race day MC (who was playing some serious tunes over the loud speaker). Before long, the race had started and the team were soon pounding the pavements with thousands of other runners.
The first of #Team9BAR finished the race in just under the hour (an amazing achievement!) and the rest swiftly followed. It was incredible to see everyone cross the finish line in the iconic Olympic stadium and really gave the team a huge sense of achievement. We saw more than a few sprint finishes too – move over Usain!
All in all, it was an incredible, endorphin filled day – ending with a glass of vino and a hearty lunch in the sun!
