Taking Netflix’s GLOW to the streets of London for Pride

G.L.O.W – the ‘Glamorous Ladies of Wrestling’ is Netflix’s brand new Original Series show that sees Alison Brie (Mad Men) as Ruth Wilder, an out-of-work actress who takes on wrestling in a last-ditch effort to keep her career afloat. The new comedy follows a group of unique women in Los Angeles who learn to body slam and break out of their comfort zones – all in the name of creating a low-budget cable TV show.

So, think neon, 80’s, female empowerment and the ultimate in alter egos. What’s not to like? And to mark the occasion, Netflix sponsored the first ever ‘Ladies Area’ at this year’s London’s LGBT Pride in Leicester Square. A slightly less chaotic space which enabled visitors to sit and enjoy a stage packed full of female acts, later exploding into a full-on street party of the finest quality.

Netflix then tasked PrettyGreen to deliver an experience that would celebrate this launch, and drive awareness amongst some of Netflix’s strongest supporters. We thought, what better way than bring a little of the 80’s neon love to the Square? Girls dressed in glittery pink, blue and gold leggings, amazing 80’s make-up and back combed hair, lead the charge. Encouraging visitors to pop their heads in the selfie boards (and look fierce in some rather unusual wrestling moves), ensuring that everyone had the G.L.O.W tattoo stamp and adding a little glitter to people’s make up, the G.L.O.W activation fitted in perfectly with the atmosphere of possibly one of the busiest LGBT Prides London has seen.

For those lucky enough to be invited in, the G.L.O.W VIP bar provided free drinks and snacks throughout the day (including the ‘Slammer Jammer’ cocktail inspired by G.L.O.W) alongside another photo opportunity; jump into the wrestling ring and face a terrifying body slam!

A lighthearted and fun introduction to the networks hottest show… And in a city recently rocked by uncertainty and fear, it was amazing to be part of London’s LGBT Pride, bringing a smile to everyone’s faces again and showing how beautiful London can be – especially with a little neon glitter…
