Stacey Solomon-ster: an alien transformation PR stunt for Cartoon Network’s Ben 10

We’re all about the green. From our name, to our meeting room covered in astro-turf, to our love of helping clients make more money.

This week, we added transforming TV celebs into monstrously green alien villains to our list of loves.

To celebrate Ben 10 on Cartoon Network UK, we transformed much-loved Loose Woman Stacey Solomon into Vilgax from the smash-hit show as a shocking surprise for her son Zach.

Taking on a brief from Cartoon Network – we were challenged to find a way to take one of their most popular cartoon shows, Ben 10, and reach a wider audience of UK mums while explaining key themes from the show.

Through additional research – the core concept that came through time and time again of what sticks out about Ben 10 is the transformation that the lead character goes through each episode, and a theme that parents loved too for the imagination it allowed their own kids.

Putting these two hands together (finding someone popular with mums across the UK + introducing the element of transformation), the idea of transforming Stacey Solomon into an alien to surprise her son Zach was born.

From additional research, we knew that Stacey Solomon’s sons were huge fans of the show already, so she was of course very happy to get involved with the campaign (and be one of the few celebs willing to put herself through hours…and hours…of make-up to turn this into a reality).

The journey began way back in August, at our friends Millennium FX’s (known for their creation of some of Doctor Who’s most iconic villains, from The Silence to the Weeping Angels) Aylesbury studios to create a cast of Stacey’s face and torso…joining their wall of terrifying, yet famous, client list wall.

After that…a full six weeks of costume design, followed by five hours of make-up at a studio in Hackney, led to the shocking transformation below as Stacey became one of the galaxy’s most feared alien warlords.

After his initial shock, Stacey posed for a photoshoot in her new guise alongside son Zach dressed as Ben 10. We also hosted interviews with a number of media on the day, recorded behind-the-scenes footage throughout as well as filmed a series of quick-fire questions for the Cartoon Network UK Instagram channel to expand the campaign’s reach.

And the results of which, so far, speak for themselves. Since the photoshoot, we’ve secured total coverage on the likes of The Sun, Daily Mirror, Daily Star and MailOnline, with more than 21 million potential daily reach, with an estimated total number of views of just over 1.4million to date for Ben 10 and Cartoon Network.

It is unconfirmed if Stacey has managed to get all the green off yet though…
