Singin’ in the Rain

On Saturday 19th October, the PrettyGreen gang descended on Glasgow’s SSE Hydro for the 2013 MOBO Awards. Shirts, ties, glamorous frocks and high heels were out in force as we got in the red carpet spirit and, it transpired, were completely impractical as the heavens opened and a summer’s worth of rain fell in two hours. Not easily perturbed, particularly when you get to hold Tinie Tempah’s hand along the carpet, the team popped open the umbrellas and got to work making sure that designer dresses and coiffured hairdos remained intact as stars made their way into the venue.
It takes some doing to keep So Solid Crew (all 50+ of them) dry, and appease hundreds of very wet fans waiting for four hours for autographs without cover… or a boat to get away in. But we can say, with an element of relief, that Craig David made it intact, and Laura Mvula’s make-up looked just as beautiful by the end as it did at the beginning. Sadly the same can’t quite be said for the PrettyGreen team.
Once out of the storm, we were well and truly swept up in awards ceremony excitement. Screaming crowds, ridiculous music volumes and a never ending flow of ‘faces off the telly’ all helped to get us excited about the show, with one particular teenage dream becoming a reality for a few of us as we watched ’21 Seconds’ live from the side of the stage. The show is available now on BBC iPlayer, where you can see Laura Mvula, Rudimental and Wiley all work away with a coveted MOBO award, but in the meantime you can see our priceless efforts to keep dry here:
