A right Royal knees up

Three weeks ago the Royal Albert Hall played host to the British Olympic Association’s Our Greatest Team Rises – an event to celebrate and announce eleven disciplines of athletes who will be competing at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

After its popularity in Covent Garden, we brought back the Cadbury Dairy Milk giant Shop of Cards to the public, inviting passing guests, athletes and VIPs to write their personal Postcard messages to the athletes and enjoy some tasty Cadbury chocolate.

As the guests arrived, the Shop of Cards played host to a number of well-known faces including the much-respected Sir Steve Redgrave, British sweetheart Gloria Hunniford and one fifth of popular boy band, JLS, Marvin Hulmes – all of whom were happy to pick up a pen and lend their words of support.

After the much-anticipated arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the show included great performances by Will Young, Alfie Boe, Gary Barlow and The Noisettes, along with a competitive auction where Cadbury gave away some money can’t buy prizes.

At 11pm the party really got started as the Cadbury orchestra and 40-strong gospel choir took to the stage with a rousing medley from our recent Keep Singing, Keep Team GB Pumped campaign. Now, we know that everyone loves a sing-a-long so to make sure everyone got as involved as possible, we popped some song sheets on tables.

Not one to do things by halves, Cadbury’s spot finished with Spandau Ballet front man and 80s legend Tony Hadley belting out a powerful rendition of Gold, complete with a dazzling firework display.

It was a truly memorable night, not least for the fact that our resident royalist and Take That superfan, Sarah Henderson spent much of the night torn over who she should to try and befriend, Gary or Kate!
