PrettyGreen Gets Shirty With Southampton and Virgin Media
After months and months of top secret planning here at PG HQ with our friends at Virgin Media and Southampton FC the day is nearly here. As this Wednesday will see Virgin Media donating its shirt sponsorship of Southampton FC to the disability charity Scope for a one-off match against Man United to help raise awareness of the discrimination disabled football fans face in the stands.
The campaign came off the back of research by Virgin Media and Scope that showed eight out of 10 disabled fans had suffered a form of discrimination inside a football stadium.
As part of our role, we partnered with Paralympic gold medal winners Jonnie Peacock and Richard Whitehead to visit Southampton players Fraser Forster, Jay Rodriguez and club captain Steven Davis at their training ground to discuss the topic…as well as getting some expert tips on how to take the perfect penalty, including Fraser’s tips on distracting the penalty taker, a tactic that recently worked very well against Liverpool when he saved James Milner’s penalty.
There’s an awful lot of goals still to be scored with this campaign, including the half time on-pitch activation in front of over 30,000 people (no pressure!), that we need to hit the back of the net before we’ll be spraying each other with champagne. However with over 170 pieces of coverage and hundreds of social posts already on the scoreboard, we’re going to allow ourselves a quick celebratory high-five for what has been an unbelievable team performance so far.
