The Launch of Robert Webb’s How Not to Be a Boy with Audible & The Power of Spoken Word

To celebrate the launch of Robert Webb’s first release How Not to Be a Boy, we helped Audible to create an intimate evening for his close friends, media and the wider team that worked so hard behind the scenes.

What made this reading different to those heard at most book launches, is that it set a precedent for what you are to expect with the “How Not to Be a Boy” audiobook. Hearing someone bringing their own stories to life really enhances the connection between the listener and the author, or in this case, the crowd and Rob himself.

There’s something really special about hearing the story just as he wanted to tell it, feel every emotion he wanted you to feel and finish it with a greater understanding of the British comedic genius. How Not to Be a Boy’s launch and audiobook really demonstrates the power of narration.

Held at London’s Century Club we wanted to create a relaxed environment for the launch, that felt like a home away from home on arrival. Guests were treated to an array of mouthwatering canapés and beverages, including bespoke cocktails and mini dishes such as aubergine with sweet chilli and truffle mac and cheese (which we may have had one too many of).

Celebrity guests included Ade Edmondson (The Young Ones), Jason Hazeley (Ladybird For Grown Ups), Hugh Quarshie (Holby City) Robert Thorogood (Death In Paradise) and Sarah Kants (The Deep Blue Sea), all of which came to support Rob on the success of his first ever book and audiobook.

Robert Webb and Ade Edmonson spotted at the launch of Robert Webb’s audio book ‘How Not To Be A Boy’, now available on Audible.

Whilst guests listened to the short extracts from the audiobook and discussed the stories with the man himself, the standout moment of the evening came from Rob’s reading. Webb performed a short reading of one of the most humorous extracts, detailing his entertaining failed attempt at driving a van with two Aussie companions, which ended in complete disaster. We don’t want to give it all away but let’s just say his van driving career didn’t last long…

With heartfelt speeches from Audible, his book publishers Canongate, and of course Rob himself, it was evident that everyone was immensely proud of Webb’s first book and excited to blow off some steam after all the hard work over the last year. And our highlight, Rob took the time to personally speak to every single person in the room. Maybe How Not to Be a Boy, but definitely how to be a gentleman.

How Not to Be a Boy has already made it on to best print and audiobook lists and we couldn’t recommend it highly enough.  Available to download now at
