Team9BAR train for the Great Newham Run with Professor Greg Whyte!

As sponsors of The Great Run Company, over the last couple of months, 9BAR (the super seed brand) have been on a mission to find 9 members of the British public to take on the Great Newham Run with help, of course, from the 9BAR ambassador, celeb trainer, former Olympian and Professor Greg Whyte, OBE.

For those of you who don’t know, Greg Whyte is the man behind most (if not all) Sports and Comic Relief challenges. He trained, motivated and successfully coached David Walliams to swim across the English Channel and Along the River Thames; John Bishop’s Week of Hell; James Cracknell to run, cycle and swim to Africa; Cheryl Cole, Chris Moyles and Gary Barlow to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro…. the list is endless – but you get the gist – he means serious business!

In prep for their Great Newham Run on July 17th, we hosted a 9BAR training day at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with the Prof – Greg Whyte – who took #Team9BAR through their paces, motivating them and giving them all the must-have knowledge to master the 10k (we want to say with ease, but think just to master 10k after only 4 weeks training – from nothing – is pretty amazing!).

The day started with a meet and greet with Greg who got the team super excited about everything from training to race day; he took them through a ton of stretches (that worked muscles you wouldn’t even know existed), showed them exercises to help with their strength and stability and blew everyones mind with a load of scientific facts and nutritional info about what to do and what to eat to see you through a 10k run – 9BARs advisable!

Did you know its usually your socks that cause blisters, not your shoes? (tip: wear super thin, seamless socks or thick cushioned socks for the least friction), never wear new trainers for a run, and always try and acclimatise yourself before a big run (our unpredictable somtimes-rainy-sometimes-sunny British summertime can make it quite difficult to do this, but if you can, you should!)

Its actually quite ironic that Newham is one of London’s most unfit boroughs, yet is home to the iconic sporting venue, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park where our 9BAR team will be running on July 17th for their Great Newham Run debuts. If you think you you too can get off the sofa and put your trainers on the tracks then feel free to sign up; entries are still open!
